I was too young to lose friends in Vietnam. Too preoccupied with childhood to attend Moratoriums. A naked girl on television, screaming from napalm burns, brought the Vietnam War into my life. Then I saw it as a battle between the bad guys (in black PJs) and our good guys. But gulping steamy air after escaping Vietnam's Cu Chi tunnels, I raised my water bottle to the thousands of Viet Cong who ate, slept, fought and died in that stifling, disease-ridden warren. |
