Sunday Lunch in Samoa
Melanie Ball  in Polynesian
Most travellers are still sleeping when villagers around Samoa's islands start cooking Sunday lunch. The meal is central to the day's activities and it is worth missing a few hours sleep to watch youths build the umu (aboveground stone oven) and prepare the food. Doing so can lead to an invitation to eat with the family. Acceptance leads to the discovery that green banana dipped in cooked coconut cream is delicious.
