Haworth is grey. Wet paving stones cling to a main road rising one in 10 to a church and an hotel - testing dedication to God and drink. Behind the church, mossy headstones crowd the cemetery of the parsonage where Emily Bronte penned Wuthering Heights. Signs direct visitors through the graveyard to the Bronte children's favourite walk across the Yorkshire dales. The wind keens. Here was the wellspring of Cathy and Heathcliff's torment.
