Buckler's Hard is the unusual name of a tiny village that played a huge part in British naval history. First impressions suggest otherwise but very different ships from today's yachts once sailed the Beaulieu River. And the ground that rolls down to its bank from twin terrace cottages bustled with more life than dog-walkers and ducks. Two centuries ago, scores of men toiled here, fashioning New Forest oaks into mighty men-of-war. |
