Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud
Melanie Ball  in Tasmania
To be fair, Australia's most popular long-distance walking track is muddy only in parts. The substantial size of those parts does not detract from its being an unforgettable journey through country that inspires awe. Running south from ice-carved Cradle Valley to Lake St Clair (Australia's deepest freshwater lake), the Overland Track draws a 75-kilometre line through the vast Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
