Cutting Through the Kimberley
Melanie Ball  in Western Australia
The Gibb River Road is 600 kilometres of corrugated red dust. Comprised in part of century-old stock routes, sections of it are as rough as when thousands of hooves cut the surface. The road bisects the vast Kimberley region bounded by the Northern Territory, the Great Sandy Desert and the Timor Sea to the north and north-west, providing access to Australia's most spectacular gorge country.
