 Normanton's annual race meeting is a big day out in Queensland's Gulf Country. Horses come from near and far to gallop around the dirt track, and people to bet on them. There is all the excitement of a Melbourne Cup Day without parking problems, risk of rain or worries about roses blooming on time - because there aren't any. There is no champagne to get up your nose, either. Gulf Country punters prefer Bundaberg Rum and XXXX beer.
