A Whale of a Time
H
er curious eye seems to return my gaze as she looms larger, her massive black head appearing so close I could touch it. Lowering my binoculars distances us but does not break the spell. I am captivated by the southern right whale lolling in the sea below the cliff. I wonder what she thinks of me. The Great Australian Bight offers Australia's best land-based whale watching from platforms perched on cliffs where the Nullarbor Plain meets Southern Ocean.
